25 years after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, a woman who died in the tragedy has been identified - with genetic genealogy.
Almost 1,100 9/11 victims' remains have not been connected with a person who died that day. Today, it's estimated that 47 of those DNA profiles may be good candidates for genetic genealogy. Determining whether a profile is a good candidate has two layers: 1) the quality of the DNA itself and 2) the distance from the profile to its closest relation. While it hasn't been announced or released what the demographics are of those candidate profiles, it is the case that people born in the USA are more likely to have closer matches. Leading to an important question: are immigrant victims of 9/11 less likely to be identified even as science advances?
